Isaiah 44:6-8 His Witness

God is calling on His people to be His witness. For ALL that He has done, there is NO doubt in my mind. There is only ONE God. “I am the first and I am the last; beside me there is no god.”

Of ALL the things that man has worshiped, there is NONE who can stand up against God. NONE with a list of ‘accomplishments’ and proofs of deity. NONE has created anything new. NONE has moved in the world in ways that can be observed. NONE has altered time. NONE has altered gravity. NONE has conquered death. NONE has brought water in dry places. NONE has stacked up the water. NONE has given sight to one born blind. NONE has straightened/strengthened the legs of the lame AND had them immediately walk.

Yes. Some have convinced the hearts of the gullible to bow down to them. Some have made promises THROUGHT THE MOUTHS OF THEIR FOLLOWERS. Some have had coincidence link them with natural happenings. Some have tried to explain what happens after death.

More appropriately, some of the believers in these false gods have done these deeds. The gods themselves are nothing but wood, stone, and metal. They have NO life in them and can do NOTHING beyond the hands of their followers. With ALL the sacrifices made to these inanimate objects, they have profited NOTHING. The followers get a ‘feel good’ experience only. And they hope that their petitions have been heard. HEARD BY WHAT?!? A piece of wood? A lump of gold? No seeing eyes. No hearing ears. No speaking mouth. And no living breath.

A REAL God would be able to affect the life of His followers. He would have a witness beyond mere men’s speech. He would leave evidence of His power on the features of this world. Let’s put our God to the test and see how He measures up. I’m going to compile two lists. One before Jesus and one of Jesus. ALL are God’s works as Jesus is part of God. Some of Jesus’ list are evidence of the Trinity; triune God. These lists are by NO MEANS exhaustive. It would take the rest of my life to list ALL the evidence.

1. Creation itself. NO WAY this complex universe ‘just happened’ on its own.
2. The mind of man. God made him unique among all creation. None has the capacity of through and understanding he does.
3. Spoke and walked with Adam personally in the Garden of Eden.
4. Preparing for the survival of man, land animals and birds for His ‘fresh start’ initiative. God gave Noah the plans for a ‘house boat’ LONG before anyone had even heard of rain.
5. Cleansing the world through the flood and restarting it again in one year’s time. We know it takes YEARS for a tree to regrow and we have seen how floods wipe out trees in their path. A world-wide flood MUST have downed a LOT of trees!
6. Preparation for the family of Jacob/Israel. We have no way of knowing how the nation of Israel would have developed if God hadn’t brought them together into Egypt. He made the famine that caused them to seek help. He allowed Joseph to be sent on ahead to prepare a place for them. He kept them together as one people and grew them into a nation, even while under bondage.
7. Releasing Israel from captivity. If nothing else will prove to you the ability of God to act on ALL aspects of His creation, the ten plagues should. And the fact that the Hebrews were exempt from the later ones proves His power even more.
8. The parting of the Red Sea. One of His more famous acts. Let’s see a hunk of wood do THAT!
9. The voice of God speaking from the mountain. It scared the people so badly that they asked Moses to speak with them on their behalf.
10. Food for forty years! The people had fresh food every day. They didn’t have to go hunting for it or purchase it from neighboring nations. He even brought in meat when they complained about it.
11. Water from a rock, not once but twice! You can’t get blood from a stone but God can sure get water from them. Enough water to satisfy around a million people and their animals.
12. Conquest of Jericho. Even the people in the city knew that Israel’s God had some mighty power. They didn’t realize how powerful though. Their impenetrable walls fell flat. No inwards or outwards. Simply crumbled beneath their feet and around their heads. Try and do that with walls thick enough to build houses within them!
13. The deaths of 185,000 soldiers in one night without a single shot fired. We recently covered this story about the time of King Ahaz.
14. Foretelling of their captivity AND release. These events were because of their sin and repentance.
15. The foretelling of the birth of His own Son over 500 years before it happened.

1. Angels bringing messages from God to man through various means. Visions, dreams, in person visitors, heavenly presentations, and changes in the constellations. These announced John the Baptist birth and Jesus’ birth to those involved and who would bear witness.
2. Jesus teaching in the Temple as a young boy with knowledge FAR beyond His years.
3. Water into wine at the wedding in Canna. This was Jesus’ first official miracle.
4. Jesus’ baptism by John where ALL the Godhead was represented. God the Father’s audible voice, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove landing on Jesus as He emerged from the water.
5. Myriad healings that Jesus preformed from cleansing the leper to giving sight to a man born blind. Then there are the individuals He raised from the dead.
6. The two meager meals that fed THOUSANDS and had left overs!
7. Jesus walking on the water.
8. Jesus power over the elements. He instantly calmed storms as well as rose against gravity.
9. Jesus authority over demons. He cast out demons on several occasions.
10. Jesus walking with and speaking to Elijah and Moses LONG after they were buried, and God’s voice from Heaven redirecting Jesus’ distracted disciple.
11. Jesus’ power over death itself!!! This one fact alone sets belief if Jesus apart from belief in all other gods. NONE of the other pretenders are alive today. Only Jesus walked out of the grave under His own power. And this isn’t just a story told by His followers but by MANY people who saw Him afterward.
12. The Holy Spirit’s work at Pentecost. This was the greatest single jump in believer count, that I know of. THOUSANDS joined the family of God that day because of the Holy Spirit removing language barriers.
13. God’s promises for after our time on earth ends AND the earth itself ends. No other god promises what comes next. And any ‘promises’ the followers of false gods offer are based on nothing but hope. OUR promises are based on a proven track record of the Only True God. The God of Israel Who also called ALL people to Himself.

THIS is the list of my God’s accomplishments, IN PART. And THIS is why I will be His witness to my dying breath. No other god even comes close. No other god has ANY power at all!

Father God, THANK YOU for providing Your ‘resume’ for me. With SO MANY points on it, how could ANYONE not believe in You? After looking at a flower, or watching a baby being born, or even looking at the stars in the sky, HOW could ANY doubt Your existence?

Maybe it’s not that they all doubt Your existence but doubt whether You would actually care about them. THANK YOU there too for providing me proof. Proof in Your promises, proof in Your word, and proof in my own life. Me. Fallible me. Is LOVED by YOU. I KNOW this to be true because YOU said so. And because You have wrapped me up in Your arms more times than I can count.

Thank You for helping me with the issue I was facing yesterday. It wasn’t the BEST solution, but it is one I am grateful for. Thanks for caring about every aspect of my life. I look forward to the time when I can see You face to face. To the time when Jesus and I will sit together and answer all the questions our time has birthed in me.
