Isaiah 40:9-31 It Is HE

It is HE who created the universe! Who would you compare Him too? These are the questions being asked by God to a wayward people AND to one who is steadfast.

There are SO MANY false gods being worshiped in Isaiah’s time and in ours too. These questions are just as poignant today as they were the day Isaiah gave voice to them for the Lord. God. THE Creator of ALL that is asks His people to seriously consider Him against ALL they worship.

Is your money able create even one star in the universe? Can your car weigh out the measure of even one mountain? Can your lofty degree bring rain on a barren valley? Will your wood carvings, decorated with gold, alter the course of the river? Have the gods that you bow down to fashioned you with their own hands? Do they have breath to speak to you and give direction for your life?

ALL THESE THINGS were fashioned by the hands of man. There is no life in them. They are objects with no breath, no wisdom, no understand, and NO ability to truly impact the course of your life for the good. The item itself is no evil or good. How you view it makes the difference. Is it a tool or a totem? Do you use it to improve your life or worship it as your source of identity?

Israel had already fallen. She had replaced her God with idols and symbols. She would claim to be seeking the Lord’s direction at times but NOT a relationship with Him. Judah had been ‘playing both sides of the fence’. She had idols in her midst but also maintained the Temple of God with the daily sacrifices; at least in King Hezekiah’s time. But GOD WILL NOT SHARE OUR LOVE! It’s a lot like trying to walk with your feet on both sides of a picket fence. There is only pain and disaster waiting ahead. You might get away with it for a SHORT time but disaster looms in your future!

WHO or WHAT is like our God? Who could you hold up as an example to compare Him to? Absolute truth; NO ONE and NOTHING. Just looking our into my yard at the variety of flowers growing there tells me about the hand of my God. I don’t care how hard you work or how many avenues you try, you CANNOT even come close to creating the beauty He does. And the fragrance of those flowers the He created are astounding. Some so heavy you can almost taste them and others so light they feel like they just brush your nostrils. I’ve noticed that engineered flowers cannot even compare in scent to the ones God created. And this is not even scratching the surface of the power of my God.

Imagine the creativity needed to ensure that EVERY snowflake is unique in its design? The first flurry would have ended my creativity. Yet, He provides snow for blizzards all the time without tiring! Consider the clouds in the sky. How they are created, shift, change, and do the work He has created them for. Who on earth would EVER have been able to engineer the processes of evaporation, condensation, and air current? These three basic pieces are REQUIRED for cloud formation and for rain to fall. Try figuring out how to do this BEFORE God did!

And how about ocean tides. Who could have designed the rising and retreating of the tides but God? He placed the moon the perfect distance from the earth to accomplish this magnetic pull. Who could have come up with the concept of magnetism to begin with! Just the right amount of pull and push to stir the waters and keep them full of life. Without this ebb and flow, the oceans would become stagnant and die. Too much and they would spill out of their boundaries.

I could go on like this FOREVER and not even begin to compile a complete list of all the works God has done! He left not a single thing to ‘chance’. And this is the SAME God who loves you and me. The one who made the PERFECT plan for our lives. NO block of wood, stone, or precious metal could do ANY of these things!!! I KNOW Who I’m going to serve and put my trust in! How about you?

Those who trust Him with their life will find Him faithful! Where is your hope? On whom do you rely? Are you one who waits upon the Lord, or one who believes you’ve ‘got this’ on your own?

Father God, thank You for the little things in my world that speak so clearly of You. There is NO DOUBT in my mind about Your existence. There is NO WHERE else to put my trust. If You can be trusted to keep this whole universe in shape, I have NOTHING to worry about in terms of caring for my life. There is NONE like you!!!
