2 Peter 1:16-21 Irrefutable Evidence

Jesus even made sure to bring more than one witness to this event.

Peter puts any doubts to rest as to the teachings he is sharing. He wants ALL to know that what he shares is REAL.

Peter wants everyone to know that the teachings he is passing on are NOT false doctrines, as are being spread about during his time. The first thing Peter does is authenticate his source. Peter was one of three eyewitnesses to one of the most astounding events during Jesus’ life on earth. The event Peter is referencing is Jesus’ transfiguration on the mountain. This was an event that stayed with Peter, even in the hard times.

I don’t know if you have ever had a deep encounter with God, but it is something that you will NEVER forget. I have had MANY special moments with Him over my lifetime that I cling to but only a few spectacular ones. My husband had one that, even with his memory and cognitive issues, still sticks with him. His happened as he was being taken into surgery for a brain tumor. This was a life or death moment for him. He told God that it was ok whatever way it went. Then he says that he saw Heaven and felt God’s warm embrace and KNEW that not only was everything going to be alright, but God was more real than he had ever believed. He encountered the Creator of the Universe that day and trusted Him with whatever happened. Read more »

Luke 9: 28-36 Private Prayer Time

Hands lifted in prayer

Prayer changes us too

We are visiting a very amazing scene today. It isn’t the view or any historical relics that make it so amazing, but the attendees and the events leave one breathless. The scene I’m referring to is the mountaintop where Jesus’ glory shone through like the sun. The place of Jesus’ transfiguration. We have already visited this site with Matthew and Mark but Luke ads a couple of things we didn’t see in the other stories. If you would like to look back at our first two visits, click on the links “Jesus’ Transfiguration” and “The Son in His Glory” for a quick review.

Luke tells us that Jesus took Peter, James and John to the mountaintop to pray. Jesus often stepped away to pray by Himself but this time He took His closest three disciples with Him. He would also take these same three men with Him into the Garden of Gethsemane for the same purpose. Read more »

Matthew 17:1-13 Jesus’ Transfiguration

His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as light

This is the first time that Matthew has told us how many days have passed between one story and the next. I wonder why he is being so precise today. Because Matthew has not mentioned that Jesus has traveled, I’m going to assume that we are still in Caesarea Philippi. I wonder what was going on during those six days. I assume Jesus was still engaged in healing people and spreading His teaching. As before they were probably repeat kind of ministries and didn’t rise to the level of significance required to be included. Not that the events themselves weren’t significant, but for the sake of space, they were left out of the synopsis of Jesus life.

Jesus takes Peter, James, and his brother John with Him to a mountaintop. On that mountaintop the true Jesus shown through His earthly vessel. So many people depict Jesus in pictures as having a halo all the time. They paint Him with almost glowing garments and an unearthly light emanating from His hair. This is NOT how Jesus looked on any other day, except today. Today puts those pictures to shame. “His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as light” (verse 2). Jesus was literally glowing! Read more »
