Jesse Tree November 29 Adam & Eve
Adam & Eve reading: Genesis 1:26-31
God created everything from time on down. His crowning achievement was man. He saved this for the last work day. He wanted everything else in place first. When all was ready God got His hands dirty.
In each phase of creation before man God spoke everything into motion.
Day 1: “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3)
Day 2: “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters…”(Genesis 1:6a)
Day 3: “Let the waters under heaven be gathered together into one place and let dry land appear…” (Genesis 1:9a); “Let the earth sprout vegetation…” (Genesis 1:11a)
Day 4: “Let there be lights in the expanse of heaven…” (Genesis 1:14a)
Day 5: “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth…” (Genesis 1:20a); “Let the earth bring forth creatures according to their kind…” (Genesis 1:24a)
Day 6: “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness…” (Genesis 1:26a)
When He got to man he had a specific plan in mind. He took the dust of the ground and molded and shaped it until He had exactly what He wanted. Then He breathed life into it. He gave man a spirit apart from the body He made. Then he gave him a purpose. He gave man the care of His creation. Then He gave man a helper; woman.
What God made lived together in harmony. The lion ate grass as well as the sheep. “And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food” (Genesis 1:30).
God’s creation was good and so He rested for a day. He had done all the work and put everything into the hands of His crowning piece. Man was to take it from here and care for it just as God would. He didn’t leave him alone. God saw man’s need of companionship and He made woman. God walked with man in the garden in the cool of the evening. He wanted to hear firsthand about his day. God enjoyed spending time with His creation. He still does today. That is exactly why He sent His Son Jesus. He came to restore that relationship.
One quick note: Man isn’t the only one God laid hands on during creation but he is the only one created in God’s own image and given breath by God. “Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens” (Genesis 2:19a). He made them with His hands then placed them into man’s to care for.
Father God, Your creation is AMAZING! Thank You for taking the time to make me. “I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it well” (Psalm 139:14). I cannot say it any better myself.
