Romans 8:31-39 Unstoppable Love
Today Paul shares with us just how precious we are to God. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (verses 38-39).
Those two verses say it ALL. There is nothing that can get in the way of God’s love for us. He loved us so much that He sent His OWN Son to take our place! There is no person I love enough to exchange my child’s life for theirs. God had a slight advantage over me because He knew the final score concerning Jesus’ death. He knew that His Son’s death was not permanent but would permanently change us.
Does this mean that I think God easily made that choice? NO WAY! He knew the torture Jesus was going to have to endure. I wouldn’t even trade my child going through that, without the death component, for anyone. I would be hard pressed to agree to exchange my own life under those conditions. But God made that choice in the beginning and stuck with it.
God could have started over again when Adam and Eve sinned. He could have wiped EVERYONE from the face of the earth with the flood. He could have burned Israel to ashes because of the golden calf that hopped out of the fire. But He didn’t. He made His first promise of a redeemer to Adam and stuck with that promise until it was finally fulfilled.
Jesus was that promise made flesh. Jesus told His disciples that they were going to encounter tough times after He left them. He even promised that they would be killed. But more important than that is that He promised that they would not be alone. The Holy Spirit would be with them through it all.
We saw yesterday how God uses circumstances to bring us to our decision point. Some of those circumstances are difficult for us to walk through but we don’t walk them alone. He is with us every step of the way. He is not afraid to put hard things in our path because He knows the character that will be built while enduring those things. He knows the benefits we will receive. Just as He knew the benefits that would come from the hard places Jesus walked.
“If God is with us, who can be against us?” (verse 31).
Father God, thank You that I can have confidence in my safety in Your arms. You loved me enough to send Jesus to die for me. I know I don’t deserve it and honestly don’t fully understand it. But I accept Your love in spite of my lack of comprehension.
Thank You Holy Spirit that You are always with me, no matter where I go. Even if I try and run away, You will always be with me. I can’t hide from You.
