Mark 13:24-27 Jesus Coming in the Clouds

Lord there is NONE like You

Lord there is NONE like You

Jesus is still sitting on the mountain side, telling His disciples of what awaits us all at the end. He was sitting on the Mount of Olives when Peter, James, John, and Andrew approached Him to ask about the end of days. They wanted to know what would happen and when it would all take place. Jesus has shared with them what to expect leading up to that time, what will signal the final end, and now He shares how it will all finally end.

This story was also covered when we looked at Matthew’s account of Jesus words. You can find it under the title “Jesus Arrives a Second Time.” We looked at the events Jesus says will take place. Today I want to back up a little and look at the false christs and false prophets who He said would come first. I also want to compare the differences in the two times Jesus makes His appearance on Earth.  Read more »

Mark 13:14-23 Be On Guard

Jesus is continuing His answer to Peter, James, John, and Andrew’s question. I have a feeling that they are blown away a LOT by His answer. The picture He is painting for them is a bleak one. But there is hope for the one who remains in Him.

We addressed this topic when we were in Matthew and you can look back at that blog post under “The Abomination of Desolation.” We looked at quite a few things in that post, so I might gloss over those points today and look at the experience of the people in the last days instead.  Read more »

Mark 13:3-13 The End Is Coming

Holy Spirit take over now please

Holy Spirit take over now please

Jesus and His disciples have left the city and arrived on Mt. Olive. Jesus decides to take a break there and He spends some time talking with His disciples about what to expect from the future.

Jesus is sitting down looking out toward the temple when Peter, James, John, and Andrew approach Him privately. Had the group stopped by the wayside to eat? Anyway, they have a question for Jesus. They had heard His answer about the temple being destroyed, now is their chance to get more information on that subject. I’m wondering if Jesus shared this information with the rest of the group or if He kept His comments private, as this was the only group who voiced interest in knowing more. Read more »

Mark 13:1-2 And The Walls Come Tumbling Down

And the walls came tumbling down

And the walls came tumbling down

Jesus and His disciples are finally on their way out of the temple. A lot has happened in this day in Jesus’ life, but it is not over yet. He still has lessons to teach on the way back to Bethany.

The story we are looking at today was also told in Matthew. We got to walk in Andrew’s shoes as Jesus told of the Temple’s fate. Today we are going to see what more God has to share with us in this story.

“Jesus has been in the temple all day. The religious leaders hate Him, but the crowds love Him. Surely He sees this and is getting us closer to Him making His move for power. If only He would give us some kind of sigh so we could be ready.” These might be the musings of some of Jesus’ disciples. Jesus disciples are still waiting for Him to seize power here on earth. They still haven’t accepted what He has said concerning His death. Read more »

Mark 12:41-44 A Penny From The Heart

Temple Trumpets of the Treasury

Temple Trumpets of the Treasury

Again, we join Jesus in the temple. He has moved locations and is now sitting down watching the people as they give their offerings. Jesus is observing the people and what they are bringing. He has an advantage here to other would be observers in that He knows the hearts of each of the people in this procession.

I did a little digging into what the scene looked like that day. I discovered that the temple treasury was housed in the Court of the Women. There were actually 13 different receptacles for giving housed on one wall of the Women’s court. I don’t know exactly where Jesus was sitting while He made His observations, unless He was sitting on the steps. We are not told which of the receptacles she dropped her life savings into. I also learned that there were nine boxes that held offerings that were required, two for the temple tax and four for voluntary offerings in excess of the requirements. I invite you to check out Bible-History.com for much more information on this subject.  Read more »
