I know that Scripture teaches that in giving we unlock the door to receiving. But I find hyprocracy in the idea of giving IN ORDER to receive. When I give, it is because I truly desire to alleviate a need. No thanks needed–and sometimes, when thanks is given in measures that exceed the level of the gift, I find my gut churning with angst over whether my motive was really right.

Recently, I learned of a need that I was able to fill…but in order to convince the person involved to actually accept the gift, I had to reveal that I have in the past helped others. I felt guilty about sharing that…but I did it, because otherwise the current need would have remained–when I really did have the ability to fulfill it.

In that case, I have to say, “I didn’t give in order to lay up treasure in heaven–I gave simply because the person I gave to needed what I could provide.”

BTW – I was delighted to see I can now subscribe to receive your blog in my email every morning! So I did it! 🙂

I have a hard time with the give to get mentality too. The only reward I really seek is knowing that I pleased my Father by doing what He asked me to do. I think that is my Heavenly reward. If it brings anything else from Him, I will gladly accept it, but also probably feel unworthy of it.

Even when giving Christmas gifts of small things to my family, the thanks or acclaim is not my aim. I simply want to know that my gift is useful to them. I hope if it is not of use to them that they pass it along to someone who can use it.

I’m glad they got the subscription service up and running too. I’m enjoying sharing every day with you. Thank you for sharing your comments. They mean a LOT!
